From Santa

My parents went to great lengths to ensure my sister and I believed in Santa Claus for as long as possible. Mom would bake cookies with us and help us in writing Santa a letter, leaving both with a glass of milk near the fire place. Dad would actually go on the roof above our bedrooms and make thumping noises while mom was up in the middle of the night wrapping presents. He'd also make powdered sugar "Santa" footprints with his boots from the fireplace to each of our bedrooms. Oh yeah, we believed in Santa for quite a long time.

I'm remembering all this since I caved and went a bit overboard on buying my (soon to be) one month old son Christmas presents. I mean, he doesn't even know what his hands are for, for goodness sakes! I couldn't help myself today, though. I love the holidays and picking out just the right gift. As I started wrapping his gifts today, I couldn't help become completely giddy when I realized it was my turn to pass on the tradition of Santa. I actually get to sign a gift "From Santa!" It may irk me just a little that he gets all the credit while Mommy & Daddy are paying the bill, but it's the thought that counts. ;) Next year, Aaron and I will really get to play up the role of Santa since Nolan might actually understand what Christmas is by then. I can't wait to pass such warm traditions on to my son, and watch his face light up as he "hears" Santa or sees Christmas morning that Santa ate all his cookies and took the time to respond to his letter.

What lengths have you gone to ensure your children still believe in Santa?

You are going to have to start gaining weight Erin. You have to really BECOME the part. And if you need someone to play the part of Hermie, the elf that really wants to be a dentist I'll need at least 2 weeks notice so I can have extensions put in.

No one ever went that far when I was growing up, but I do remember the joy I felt when I knew Santa was coming. It's definitely an exciting time. We're putting out reindeer food so the reindeer can find their way to our house.

I was JUST asking my mom the other day if it ever bothered her that Santa got all the credit for the presents she bought and wrapped! Hah. She said no, but I was thinking, I Will want to take credit. I think my daughter will get a couple thins from Santa but I will take credit for the really awesome stuff!: )))
